Jansenâs Linkage Walker: a mesmerizing motorized sculpture that features Jansenâs linkage- a unique leg mechanism which converts rotary motion of a crackshaft into smooth walking motion. The linkage used here was invented by artist Theo Jansen for his âstrandbeestâ creations which are usually a couple meters high and walk the beaches of the Netherlands powered by the wind. This kinetic sculpture is powered by two AAA batteries and comes with complete with display stand.
Halloween Neon Glow Bulb: the pumpkins, with a high voltage between them, glow orange with light from the emission spectrum of the excited neon atoms of the low pressure gas within the bulb. The ghost glows from a coating of phosphor which is stimulated to emit green light by ultraviolet (and invisible) photons. Excited neon atoms emit photons both in the visible (mostly orange and yellow wavelengths), and also in the UV wavelengths, and these ultraviolet photons are absorbed by the phosphorescent coating on the ghost plate which then emit the absorbed energy as green light. Amazing physics in a light bulb!
Spooky Natural Mineral Fluorescence: this mini jack-o-lantern is carved from a rock-specifically grey syenite, which includes grains of the mineral sodalite. When exposed to long wavelength UV light, the carving lights up due to these sodalite crystals which fluoresce emitting the bright orange wavelengths. đ
