Norway boasts one of the most technologically advanced military production capabilities in the world, supplying many NATO allies with a wide range of advanced military equipment, including air defense systems, cruise missiles, smart shells, anti-armor launchers, and drones.

One of the crown jewels of Norwegian military technology is the NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System), developed by Kongsberg. Currently in operation in 15 different countries, NASAMS has proven capable of downing a wide range of aerial threats, including those posed by Russia in the Ukraine war. The system, which includes mobile launches mounted on a 4x4 vehicle, is so reliable that it protects the White House and Capitol in Washington, D.C. Kongsberg is also working on a long-range variant to compete with the Patriot missile system.

Another iconic piece of Norwegian military equipment is the M72 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon), produced by Nammo. This portable anti-armor weapon has been deployed in over 20 conflicts and was a favorite among soldiers during the Vietnam War. Continually upgraded, the M72 LAW remains in use across NATO and is considered a hallmark of Norwegian defense engineering.

Norway has also made significant strides in missile technology with its Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint Strike Missile (JSM), developed in collaboration with Raytheon. These missiles, designed for both naval and air platforms (specifically the F-35 fighter jet), are among the stealthiest and most advanced in their class. Originally intended to counter potential naval invasions, these missiles have seen record orders as more countries adopt the F-35.

The Skjold-class corvette exemplifies Norway's shipbuilding prowess. Once hailed as the fastest military ship in the world, the Skjold remains unmatched in terms of firepower and speed following recent upgrades. Its primary mission is to engage larger enemy vessels with its NSM, leveraging its stealth and speed.

In the realm of unmanned systems, Norway's Black Hornet Nano drone, developed by FLIR Teledyne, stands out. This tiny, almost silent drone is a staple of high-end NATO special operations units and has seen extensive use in Ukraine and counter-terrorism missions. Its ability to scout ahead in tight spaces without being easily detected or shot down makes it invaluable for reconnaissance and espionage missions.

Norwegian military production also includes a wide range of artillery shells and ammunition, particularly smart and guided shells. Nammo is one of Europe's largest producers of artillery ammunition, including RAM projectiles that rival the range of any other 155mm product in the world. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the importance of artillery, prompting Norway to boost Nammo's production capacity.

Kongsberg's CROWS (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station) and other remote turret systems have revolutionized armored vehicle operations. These systems allow soldiers to stay protected inside their vehicles while operating weaponry, significantly reducing casualties.

Intelligence gathering is a crucial aspect of Norway's military strategy, given its proximity to Russia. Norway's investment in the Marjata program has produced some of the world's most advanced signals intelligence ships. The FS Marjata and its sister ship Eger play a vital role in monitoring Russian military activities and feeding valuable information to NATO.

Norway's extensive coastline has necessitated innovative solutions for coastal defense. Kongsberg's Vanguard system is a versatile, containerized platform that allows for the rapid interchange of armaments, drones, helicopters, and underwater assets, optimizing cost and operational efficiency.

Finally, Norway's defense industry is a key supplier of rocket engines and missile propulsion systems for many renowned missile systems worldwide, including the AMRAAM, IRIS-T, Patriot, NASAMS, SAMP-T, and Sea Sparrow.
