Ukraine has begun upgrading its U.S.-supplied Bradley Fighting Vehicles with a new armor package called Tower 1, unveiled in 2024. More than 300 Bradleys were sent to Ukraine, and at least 177 have been destroyed. The new system, developed by Ukrainian firm Iron Nuts, is already in combat use by the 47th Mechanized Brigade.
Tower 1 includes a rigid frame and mesh screen designed to deflect drone and missile strikes, enhancing survivability against Russia’s intensified attacks. With over 75 Bradleys already modified alongside 25 U.S.-supplied Abrams tanks using Steel Front armor, Ukraine is pushing innovation to offset Russia’s drone swarms and safeguard its limited fleet of armored vehicles.
