The Heist: an IoT Device, Casino, and Compromised Data | Future of Tech

The Internet of Things (#IoT) may offer convenience and control, but one unsecured IoT device can put an entire network at risk. And that’s what happened to one casino: through a vulnerability in a wireless thermostat in a fish tank, hackers were able to gain access to the casino’s network and steal data from high-roller clients.

From the newness of IoT to the drive to get products to market fast, many IoT devices are less secure than a standard personal computer. Even as IoT becomes more woven into our lives and cities, it remains comparatively open to attack.
