In this video, I’m walking through the exact network setup and settings I use to keep my Apple Home, Matter, Thread, and other smart home devices running smoothly. I’ll show how I have my UniFi network configured, including separate VLANs for IoT devices, IPv6 settings for Matter, mDNS, IGMP snooping, Wi-Fi settings, and basic firewall rules for extra security.
This is not meant to be an overly technical networking deep dive. I’m not a networking expert — I’m just showing the setup that has worked well for my real-world smart home with Apple Home, HomePods, Apple TVs, Matter devices, cameras, sensors, and more.
Even if you don’t use UniFi, the same principles can still help you build a more reliable foundation for your smart home.
