The Interdisciplinary Surgical Technology and Innovation Center (INSTINCT) emerges from the collaborative efforts of Baylor College of Medicine's Department of Surgery. It serves as an incubator, dedicated to empowering our members in crafting, evaluating, and bringing to market inventive concepts that push the boundaries of medical technology.
Our central goal is to ingrain a culture of innovation within the Department of Surgery, nurturing the growth of novel medical technologies through a streamlined process.
Established in 2013 under the guidance of Dr. William "Billy" Cohn, INSTINCT was conceived to furnish our members with the necessary tools for advancing an idea from its nascent stages to full-fledged technological development. Our emphasis rests on catalyzing the initial stages of inventive exploration, leading to successful IP disclosure and eventual commercialization.
INSTINCT presents a swift pathway to transforming ideas into tangible realities. It extends comprehensive support, encompassing intellectual, financial, design, administrative, and networking resources, to all innovators and members within the Department of Surgery. Our collaboration is closely intertwined with BCM Ventures, the College's conduit for translating academic wisdom and intellectual assets into societal benefits. Together, we expedite the progression of inventions originating from the Department of Surgery.
